Dev Kits 2

March 25, 2008
Technology editor Bill Wong takes a look at new development platforms from Silicon Labs, STmicroelectronics and Lantronix.

Dev kits roll the lab on a regular basis. Some are large but many are small—like this collection. More are looking like the ToolStick from Silicon Labs with its compact USB-based debugging unit.

The Lantronix XChip development kit is based on a module but it is really designed for developers that will incorporate the XChip into their own product.

For a little fun, check out STMicroelectronics’ STM32 Primer. The STM32 is a Cortex-M3-based solution. STM32 Primer provides a software development platform but it lacks the expandability or patch area of the other two items in this roundup.

Finally, take a quick look at Melexis’ thermometer. This is actually a practical tool that demos one of Melexis’ many sensors.
