The result of a three-way collaboration, the Sereno UM-1 GSM/voice-over-Wi-Fi, dual-mode handset reference design teams the company's QS2000 single-chip bulk-CMOS multi-mode transceiver with a Blackfin SoftFone for EDGE chipset from Analog Devices and TTPCom’s architecture and protocol stack, which enables modular access to multiple technologies, protocol-stacks, operating systems, and silicon platforms. The package represents what may be the first truly optimized reference design for phones that support both Wi-Fi and cellular. Features include support for concurrent operation of 802.11 b/g and GSM/GPRS/EDGE for voice and data, optimized Wi-Fi performance for VoIP, extended range during multimode operation, active interference mitigation during full Wi-Fi transmit power, co-location of multiple antennas with no performance degradation, and the ability to run UMA and IMS clients. In addition to a reference handset, the package includes core software binaries and documentation. QUORUM SYSTEMS INC., San Diego, CA. (858) 546-0895.
