Building custom global positioning system (GPS) dataloggers to store temperature, position and other information onto PCMCIA or CF cards for later retrieval and examination is said to be easy with the TDS2020GDL data acquisition system. The data is recorded in a Windows-compatible format so a PC can read it directly into an Excel spreadsheet or Access database. The system consists of a 100 x 80 x 30 mm datalogger module employing a 16-bit embedded computer and a GPS receiver card such as Rockwell's 125 x 68 mm Jupiter GPS receiver. An interactive design permits the module to be easily tailored to the exact requirements of the application.
