Multi-Core Architecture Busts Up Network Congestion

April 28, 2010
Enabling traffic speeds beyond 21-million packets per second, the company’s integrated Network Acceleration Platform, the first in a series of multi-core acceleration solutions, promises to deliver ultra-fast IP packet forwarding performance.

Embedded Systems Conference, April 2010 – Enabling traffic speeds beyond 21-million packets per second, the company’s integrated Network Acceleration Platform, the first in a series of multi-core acceleration solutions, promises to deliver ultra-fast IP packet forwarding performance. The platform leverages multiple cores for the control and data planes to deliver multiple Gigabit Ethernet wire-speed performance. The data plane includes a network acceleration engine tuned for IPv4/IPv6 packet forwarding protocols running on a Wind River Executive while the control plane management is via a choice of carrier grade operating systems: Wind River Linux or VxWorks. The platform also includes a lightweight hypervisor to provide carrier-grade protection for software running on individual cores. The Network Acceleration Platform will be available in May on current Intel architectures. For users of Wind River Linux and VxWorks, a network acceleration upgrade kit is available that includes multi-core networking software, a real-time Executive, and a lightweight hypervisor. WIND RIVER, Alameda, CA. (800) 545-9463.
