Next-Gen FPGA Configurator Cuts Space By 75%

Interconnect Systems’ (ISI) latest generation of its FC512 FPGA Configurator targets Altera Stratix V and Arria 10 field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). The device integrates 512 Mbytes of flash storage and a controller in a 13- by 13-mm BGA package, thus reducing board space by 75%. Its full 32-bit configuration accelerates system-on-time for embedded applications and enables configuration of large FPGAs within the 100-ms PCI Express limit. Flexible usage of flash memory allows for read/write access to flash after completion of FPGA configuration. Users’ FPGA designs can update bitstreams into the FC512’s flash memory to facilitate memory mapping into an application. Such ability supports real-time remote-system upgrades to quickly address changing protocols, standards, and new applications. An integrated USB Blaster II, an on-card USB development, debug, and programming port that eliminates the need for an external USB pod, offers an 8X-faster interface than a standard USB Blaster. Internal flash images can be programmed with new images directly from Altera Quartus programmer tools.
