Wiring installation time is said to be reduced by as much as 50% to 60% for DIN-rail terminal blocks by using the taris IDC series, a family of blocks that employ insulation displacement contact (IDC) technology to eliminate the need for wire preparation. The new terminal blocks also put wire entry and screwdriver access in the same plane at the top of the block to facilitate wire installation, even in confined spaces. In addition, by having the contact clamping mechanism move to engage the wire, the blocks are said to provide a secure, gas-tight, vibration-resistant connection, even when the wire length is maxed out.
The taris Series include 5- and 6-mm width blocks in feed-through, ground, disconnect, fuse, double-tier, and 1-in-2-out versions. Models with arc suppression, reverse polarity protection, and voltage indication capabilities are also available. And the blocks are operated with a standard screwdriver--no special tools are required. The 5-mm blocks are rated for 600V, 15A and 22-16 AWG wire and the 6-mm blocks for 600V, 25A and 18-14 AWG wire (UL approval is pending).
