Fusible Resistors Handle Smoke Detector Apps

Feb. 18, 2010
FRN Series is a fusible version of the RN Series axial leaded, metal-film resistor
For applications such as smoke detectors requiring resistors with various levels of surge handling capabilities and the requirement of fusing, the FRN Series is a fusible version of the RN Series axial leaded, metal-film resistor. Fusing time is less than 30s under power levels ranging from 12 to 25 times rated power depending on resistance value. Typical fusing times are normally 10s. The WWF Series is a fusible wirewound resistor type that withstands several hundred surges of several thousand volts with little resistance shift and will open in less than 10s under overloads of 25 to 50 times rated power. Additionally, the company can tailor the resistor to fit a wide variety of design requirements. The FRN Series is available bulk, ammo, and on tape-and-reel packaging. Pricing varies with size and resistance and ranges from around $0.02 to $0.05 per thousand in full reel quantities. Available on tape-and-reel packaging, pricing for the WWF Series varies with size, resistance, tolerance, and device characteristics, typically ranging from $0.15 to $0.50 each in full reel quantities.
