Dual-Output Voltage Regulators Squeeze Into Space-Limited Netcom, Servers, Storage

Nov. 15, 2013
The IR3891 and IR3892 SupIRBuck integrated dual-output voltage regulators come in 5- by 6-mm PQFN packages, suiting them for space-constrained applications that require up to 4-A and 6-A per channel, respectively, in as little as 165 mm2.

The IR3891 and IR3892 SupIRBuck integrated dual-output voltage regulators come in 5- by 6-mm PQFN packages, suiting them for space-constrained applications that require up to 4-A and 6-A per channel, respectively, in as little as 165 mm2. They’re optimized for single-rail operation from 5- to 12-V inputs or 1- to 21-V inputs with external 5-V bias. A proprietary modulator scheme eliminates jitter and noise, leading to higher-frequency/higher-bandwidth operation for improved transient response. Interleaved phases reduce input capacitance, and powertrain isolation eliminates crosstalk and sequencing capability on channel two. Other features include switching frequency up to 1.5 MHz (IR3891) and 1.0 MHz (IR3892), pre-biased startup, input-voltage aware enable, overvoltage protection, power good, optional true output-voltage sensing for open-line feedback and adjustable OVP, internal soft-start, and minimum input voltage of 1.0 V (with external bias). Operating junction temperature ranges from −40 to 125°C.
