Groomed for notebook peripheral computing applications, the ISL6228 dual-output buck controller operates with an input voltage range from 3.3V to 25V and delivers an output range from 0.6V to 5V. Employing the company’s R3 Technology, it is said to provide the dynamic response to input voltage and output load transients required by faster and more powerful notebook PC processors. The technology consists of a hybrid of fixed-frequency PWM control and variable-frequency hysteretic control. The device features a self-adjusting PWM that sets to the most efficient switching frequency between 200 kHz and 600 kHz based on the load transient. Other features include fault protection against under voltage, over voltage, over current, and over temperature, a DCR inductor and fault ID, MOSFET driver, and a bootstrap diode. Available in a 28-lead TQFN package, price is $2.20 each/1,000. INTERSIL CORP., Milpitas, CA. (888) 352-6832.
