Isolated Base Dual Thyristor/Diode Modules Extend Current Ratings

High current, isolated base dual thyristor and diode modules are available with eight different configurations of Diode, Thyristor and thyristor/diode combinations.

IXYS UK has an extensive range of new high current, isolated base dual thyristor and diode modules. Based on the same 60 mm die used in the largest of the company’s range of single device isolated base modules, the new devices are available with eight different configurations of Diode, Thyristor and thyristor/diode combinations, including a new ‘MCR’ type which allows a parallel mounting with a conventional MCC dual thyristor device to construct a double ac switch. Construction of these modules is an ‘all pressure contact’ design with the die alloyed to a metallic disc and clamped between substantial internal copper electrodes for optimum thermal resistance to the isolated base. Thyristor and diode/thyristor modules are available with current ratings of 500 A to 720 A per device and voltage ratings from 1.4 to 3.6 kV, and all diode devices are rated at 1080 A and voltages from 1.8 to 2.8 kV. The copper base plate is 180 x 71 mm with a maximum module height of 84 mm, and weighs 3.5 kg. Typical applications include industrial drives, soft starts, welding and all types of front end rectification needs.
