Linear Regulators Boost Power Density, Reliability In High-Voltage Situations

Feb. 18, 2014
Suiting 48-V dc power systems in telecom, networking, and Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) equipment, two high-voltage linear regulators from Diodes Inc. minimize circuit footprint while delivering a fixed 5-V (±2%) output and 50-mA drive capability.

The ZXTR1005K4 and ZXRT1005PD8, squeezed into TO252-4 and PowerDI5060-8 packages, offer a cost-effective alternative for high-voltage regulation tasks that can’t use standard linear regulators. With their regulated 5-V output, microcontrollers can be powered from 48-V telecom rails, while 100-V-tolerant inputs cope with any transient conditions. High-performance line and load regulation helps ensure that voltage drops don’t result in latch-up. An active-high enable pin permits toggling of the output.
