NIWeek Wrap Up
By Lou Frenzel Electronic Design
One of the best conferences I go to each year is NIWeek. Another has come and gone, but like always I got a glimpse at some solid technology from the mega-company. National Instruments has been sponsoring their own conference here in Austin, TX for several years now, and it has become a solid industry event. Why? Simply because NI's products like LabVIEW software, data acquisition hardware, and virtual instruments have become so widely used.

Modular RF Instruments Deliver Fast Wireless Measurements
National Instruments claims its new RF vector signal analyzer, RF vector signal generator, and PXI Express 18-slot chassis can perform measurements up to 10-times faster than traditional instrumentation. The software-defined modular instruments—the NI PXIe-5663 6.6-GHz RF vector signal analyzer and the NI PXIe-5673 6.6-GHz RF vector signal generator—are complemented by the NI PXIe-1075 18-slot high-bandwidth chassis.
RIO Boards Target Control And Data-Acquisition Apps
Eight new Single-Board reconfigurable I/O (RIO) devices from National Instruments offer an integrated hardware option for embedded control and data acquisition applications. The sbRIO-96xx devices combine a real-time processor, a reconfigurable field-programmable gate array (FPGA), and analog and digital I/O on a single pc board.
Wi-Fi, Ethernet Devices Take Remote Measurments
National Instruments unveiled 10 Wi-Fi and Ethernet data-acquisition (DAQ) devices for wireless remote-monitoring applications at the NI Week exhibit. The new devices include built-in signal conditioning and direct sensor connectivity for electrical, physical, mechanical, and acoustic signals.
LabVIEW 8.6 Adds FPGA, Multicore Support
LabVIEW 8.6, the latest version of the graphical system design software program for control, test, and embedded system development, includes new FPGA and multicore intellectual property (IP) and support for the company’s FPGA-based hardware.
Get Ready For NIWeek
NI Week 2008 is here. Starting on Tuesday, August 5, more than 3,000 engineers, scientists, educators, and NI developers will convene at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas for three full days of interactive technical sessions, hands-on workshops, case study presentations, and exhibitions on the latest technologies for design, control, and test applications. Hosted by National Instruments, this show is both intellectually stimulating and a lot of fun.
