Designed to expand the performance of existing test systems with the capability to evaluate 3G amplifiers, the N4256A amplifier-distortion test set increases dynamic range, allowing the system to measure distortion of ultralinear, multicarrier amplifiers used in third generation (3G) wireless bas stations. The test set is based on the principle that the simulating source as well as the spectrum analyzer contributes to the overall dynamic range of the test system. It uses a feed-forward source signal cancellation technique via amplitude and phase matching. By removing the large carrier signal at the input of the spectrum analyzer, the instrument requires less dynamic range to make the measurement. Price for the test set is $31,000.
