Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has introduced three new ambient light sensors for automatic control of liquid crystal display brightness in automotive applications. The TEMT6200F, TEPT5700 and TEPT4400 come in 0805 surface-mount, leaded 5 mm flat-top and 3 mm packages respectively with ±60°, ±50°and ±30°angles of half intensity. Peak wavelength sensitivity is 550 nm for the TEMT6200F and 570 nm, green-yellow on the visible spectrum, for the TEPT5700 and TEPT4400.
Via a two-pin connection, the sensors are suitable for automatic headlight control, tunnel sensors, and displays that adjust automatically to changes in ambient brightness. In addition to improving display visibility and reducing power consumption, they offer an environmentally friendly alternative to cadmium-based photo resistors. The devices are lead (Pb)-free and in accordance with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC.
