Embedded: 16-Bit DSC Targets Motor Control, Lighting, And Power Conversion
The dsPIC30F line of digital signal controllers has gained two new chips—the dsPIC30F5015 and dsPIC30F5016. Operating from 2.5 to 5.5 V, they include 2 kbytes of SRAM. They also have an eight-output pulse-width modulator (PWM), with complementary or independent modes, plus four duty-cycle generators and programmable dead time. Their 1-Msample/s, 16-channel, 10-bit analog-to-digital converter offers four sample-and-holds for simultaneous sampling and a PWM trigger option. They feature four standard PWMs, five 16-bit timers, and a quadrature encoder interface. Communication peripherals include CAN, SPI, I2C, and UART peripherals. Development tools include Microchip's MPLAB integrated development environment. Pricing starts at $6. They're available in RoHS-compliant (Restrictions on Hazardous Substances), 64-pin (dsPIC30-F5015) and 80-pin (dsPIC30F5016) thin quad flat-pack packages.
