B&K Precision Introduces Low-Cost 5-MHz DDS Function Generator
November 15, 2011. B&K Precision has introduced the latest low-cost direct digital synthesis (DDS) function generator in its signal generator line. The new 4005DDS function generator delivers sinusoidal, triangular, and square waveforms up to 5 MHz and provides the fundamental functions needed to familiarize new users with function generators. The 4005DDS is targeted toward education and other applications needing basic waveform generation at a low cost of entry.
Users concerned with precise frequency control are turning to DDS-capable function generators to reap the benefits of more finely tunable frequencies and no drift due to temperature changes or aging of components, as seen in many analog function generators.
The 4005DDS features a 4-digit display and simple numeric keypad to generate sine, square, and triangle waveforms from 1 Hz to 5 MHz. With a variable output amplitude to 10 Vpp into 50 Ω or 20 Vpp into an open circuit, the instrument includes a variable DC offset knob and the ability to attenuate the output waveform by up to 40 dB.
Additionally, the 4005DDS offers an adjustable 20% to 80% duty cycle function for square waveforms up to 3 MHz and a SYNC output for TTL level signals. For educators and individuals looking to protect their investment, a Kensington security slot is provided on the rear for locking the instrument to a bench. List price is $299.
