“This one’s for you, Rick!” That might be what my TV would say if I were watching Britain’s Channel 4 with the All 4 video-on-demand service, thanks to an audio-personalization system developed by Innovid.
Julian Clover at Broadband TV News writes, “The system will use data from Channel 4’s 15 million-strong registered-viewer database. The first audio personalized ads, through launch partners Foster’s, 20th Century Fox, and Ronseal, will appear on the VOD service later this month.”
He quotes Ifeoma Dozie, brand director at Foster’s owner Heineken, as saying, “Enjoying a beer with mates is one of the most sociable things we can all do. This ground-breaking technology means that the majority of people will get a personalized ad, it’s like a digital ‘cheers!’”
I don’t know. I recently appreciated receiving an ecard in which Captain Kirk personally and enthusiastically wished me happy birthday, but I think that once a year is about enough of that sort of thing.
