  • Potential applications

Switzerland-based MPL touts its PIP46R GPU-3 (fig 1.) as the perfect solution for industrial environments and is designed for Railway, MIL/COTS, SWaP-C and other applications or whenever a rugged long-term computer is needed. The embedded PC is designed around Intel’s 6-core i7-9850HE processor and is available in a compact aluminum housing with DIN-Rail or Flange mount, a rugged MIL IP67 enclosure, a 19” rack system or an open frame platform with an accompanying cooling plate.

The PIP46R can be configured depending on users’ needs or application requirements and integrates standard connectors for easy connection or lockable headers, depending on the housing choice. MPL’s PIP housings provide enough space for 2.5-inch SSDs and feature a mPCIe slot and a trio of m.2 slots, making storage expansion easy. It also allows packs an internal expansion bus for adding PCIe/104 or PCIe cards for additional expansion capabilities.

Interfaces and ports for the PIP46R GPU-3 are plenty and include 8x USB 3.1 ports, 4x internal USB 2.0 ports, 5x LAN ports (optional), and a PCIe Gen 3 slot for GPU expansion. The embedded PC also sports a pair of mPCIe PCI Express Gen3 expansion slots, 2x m.2 communication slots (1x Key-A, PCIe/USB 2.0 & 1x Key-B, USB 3.x/PCIe/SATA), and a single PCIe/104 slot. According to MPL, the PIP40 family of ruggedized embedded systems meets or exceeds various standards, including MIL-STD-461 for electromagnetic interference and MIL-STD-810 for vibration and environmental stresses.
