Microsoft’s Visual Studio IDE Meets Renesas’ MCUs, MPUs

As one of the world’s largest vendors of embedded processors, Renesas has a huge customer base. Many of these customers interact with its silicon using the e2 studio integrated development environment (IDE).

However, more tools are becoming available. The company said its customers can now use Microsoft’s Visual Studio Code IDE to program its full line of microcontrollers (MCUs) and microprocessors (MPUs). It’s adding tool extensions for all of its embedded processors to VS Code, giving customers the ability to develop and debug embedded code using the popular IDE and millions of existing users to build on Renesas hardware.

According to Renesas, Microsoft’s IDE can be used to create embedded software on its 8- and 16-bit RL78 and 32-bit RA, RX, and RH850 MCU families, along with its industrial-grade, 64-bit RZ MPUs and R-Car SoCs.
