Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and wireless Wi-Fi can be integrated into home networking systems using two new additions to the AR7 DSL router-on-a-chip family. The AR7VWi combines VoIP, 802.11b/g wireless home networking, and digital subscriber line (DSL) into a single platform. The AR7V provides VoIP over DSL. Both devices are integrated into a reference design together with special software to produce a single system that offers consumers cost-effective VoIP and WLAN for their homes. The AR7 family uses a chip-to-chip serial interface to connect from the AR7 to the VoIP and WLAN subsystems. Both devices include an 802.11b/g platform that allows users to access broadband content and applications from anywhere in the home without wires. The AR7 family supports all existing DSL standards including the new ADSL2 and ADSL2plus, enabling download speeds up to 24 Mb/s. Full scale production is expected in June 2004.
