Building a 1/4 VGA (320 by 240) network-based user interface is a snap with Mosaic Industries' EtherSmart Controller. Peeking behind its backlit LCD touchscreen reveals a 16-MHz Motorola 68HC11F11 with half a meg of flash and RAM. The processor has plenty of peripheral connections, in-cluding serial ports, 10BaseT Ethernet, and analog support.
Applications can be developed using Controller C or Forth. The GUI Builder rapid development tool generates the source code to drive the display. The custom multitasking real-time operating system (RTOS) allows the built-in Web server to provide network support.
The EtherSmart Controller is available now, starting at $800.
