To eliminate the risk of fire or explosion resulting from over voltages or excessive leakage currents, the SFS14K385E2 varistor employs a special plastic coating that also prevents smoke from developing. In the event of a fault, components in the immediate vicinity of the varistor are safe from damage. Resulting from a heat resistant and flame-retardant design, the varistor meets UL 94 V-0 and CSA standards. Specifications include a voltage rating of 385 Vrms, surge current capability of 5,000A, and a maximum energy consumption of 136J for 2 ms. Typical applications include domestic appliances and power supplies. Depending on the type, pricing is approximately $0.50 each/1,000. EPCOS INC., Iselin, NJ. (800) 888-7728.
