Intended for CPU protection, the MIC284 thermal supervisor IC uses embedded thermal diodes similar to those found in Pentium III CPUs. It comes in 8-pin MSOPs ($1.66 each/1,000) and 8-pin SOICs ($1.54) and features an over-temperature alarm output

Intended for CPU protection, the MIC284 thermal supervisor IC uses embedded thermal diodes similar to those found in Pentium III CPUs. It comes in 8-pin MSOPs ($1.66 each/1,000) and 8-pin SOICs ($1.54) and features an over-temperature alarm output that can be used as either a hardware shutdown signal or a fan control signal. Other features include local and remote temperature measurement, an 8-bit sigma-delta A/D converter, and fail-safe response to diode faults.
