The 216-MHz, 32-bit, SH-Mobile3A-based SH73380 microcontroller (MCU) handles video chores like decoding high-speed compressed video and processing images from 5-Mpixel cameras. On-chip hardware acceleration is the key. It can even drive NTSC or PAL TV sets. The MCU also includes an LCD controller compatible with TFT color LCD panels, a sound interface, and the usual complement of digital interfaces. The SH73380 costs $48. It's available in a 409-pin chip-scale package.
