With the introduction of the SemiQ family comes the power market's first 24V input dc/dc converters to take up residence in an eighth-brick package. The SQ24 converters are capable of 15A output current with minimal or no derating at elevated temperatures and low airflow. This translates into a power density of 5.7 W/cm3 in a package measuring 40% smaller than an industry-standard quarter-brick. In an open-frame package that requires no heatsink, the converters measure 22.8 mm x 58.4 mm with heights down to 6.6 mm; they also weigh only 15g. Input voltage range is 18V to 36V, 24V nominal, and output voltages range from 1V to 12V. The new eighth-brick devices also meet basic insulation requirements of EN60950 and boast of remote sense, input under-voltage lockout, thermal shutdown, remote on/off, an output voltage adjust pin, and output over-voltage, over-current and short-circuit protection features. The converters come in both through-hole and surface-mount styles, with the SMT versions shipping on tape-and-reel. Price is $55 each/1,000. DI/DT INC., Carlsbad, CA. (866) 969-3438.
