Measuring just 3 by 5 by 1.25 in. (76.2 by 127 by 31.8 mm), the CLC175 single-output, open-frame ac-dc power supply from XP Power (see the figure) fits into a standard 1U space and offers 9.3 W/in.3 The CLC also is rated at 175 W and uses resonant topology converter techniques to achieve a typical efficiency of 87% with a very flat efficiency curve. This approach additionally improves electromagnetic-interference (EMI) performance as well as ripple and noise.

The power supply only needs 10 CFM of forced airflow to achieve its full power output. No external voltage source is required to power an external fan since the unit includes a standard 12-V dc, 0.5-A fan output. The CLC175 is available with 12-, 24-, or 48-V dc output voltages from a universal input of 85 to 264 V ac. Its standard remote sense compensates for up to a 0.5-V dc total voltage drop in the end system. No additional external components are required to meet Class B conducted EMC limits, saving cost and space.

The CLC175 operates from 0°C to 70°C with full power available up to 50°C. The CLC175-A options package includes power OK, remote on/off, and 5-V standby. Also, the CLC175 is fully approved to worldwide safety standards. Available now from Newark or directly from XP Power, it costs $93.60 in OEM quantities.
