A series of MOSFETs and a controller IC have been developed to help give greater than 95% efficiency in typical 5V to 3.3V converters. The ZXRD1000 step-down dc-to-dc controller IC is said to provide complete control and protection in these applications, while the new FETs are designed to deliver an optimum combination of on-resistance an ac switching performance-with its ZEHDMOS technology, the firm claims to have improved switching times of its MOSFETs compared to existing technologies and to obtain drain source on-resistance as low as 35 milliohms in SMT packages.
