LDOs Provide 300 mA, 16V and 70 dB Noise Rejection

Feb. 28, 2013
16 volt, CMOS LDO voltage regulators with short circuit current foldback accept an input voltage range of 3.6 V - 16 V and deliver 300 mA output current at output voltages of 1.8 V - 5.5 V.

The MCP1755 and MCP1755S from Microchip are 16 volt, CMOS LDO voltage regulators with short circuit current foldback. While accepting an input voltage range of 3.6 V - 16 V and delivering 300 mA output current at output voltages of 1.8 V - 5.5 V, the regulators consume just 68 µA of quiescent current (typical). Additionally, the LDOs have a shutdown pin, enabling them to consume less than 0.1 µA (typical) during shutdown mode. These features, along with the devices’ compact footprint, aid in providing the flexibility necessary for a range of applications, such as automotive, medical, mobile devices and LED lighting controllers. With a 70 dB @ 1 kHz PSRR to filter input noise and provide cleaner output voltages, the LDOs are suited for noise-sensitive applications like GFCI and AFCI circuit breaker designs. Both LDOs are available today for sampling and volume production, starting at $0.45 each/5,000. The MCP1755S is offered in 3-pin SOT223 and 8-pin, 2x3 mm DFN packages, while the MCP1755 is available in 5-pin SOT223 and SOT23, as well as the 8-pin DFN.
