DAC Provides Complete Audio Sub-System For Digital TV

Dec. 1, 2000

Designed for audio applications such as digital TV and set top boxes, the WM8722 D/A converter has two stereo analog outputs, one at line level and one that includes an analog volume control. This enables the user to vary the output to a TV while maintaining a constant volume on the other. An on-chip tone generator can be routed to the line or variable outputs for an audible system-warning facility. There are also two analog inputs.
The device supports data input word lengths from 16 to 24 bits and sampling rates up to 96 kHz. Other features include a serial interface, digital interpolation filter, and a multi-bit sigma-delta modulator in a 20-pin SSOP. Price is $2.06 each/10,000.
