8-bit Flash MCUs target low-voltage designs

A new family of eight-bit Flash microcontrollers from Microchip Technology Inc., PIC18F87J10, is said to offer up to 10 MIPS performance at 3 V for car alarms and other low-voltage applications.

A new family of eight-bit Flash microcontrollers from Microchip Technology Inc., PIC18F87J10, is said to offer up to 10 MIPS performance at 3 V for car alarms and other low-voltage applications.

The devices address designers’ performance and memory needs by providing linear access to as much as 128 kbytes of onboard Flash memory while also offering code and tool compatibility with other PIC18F series MCUs. The devices also feature two synchronous serial ports capable of SPI or I2C communication and two LIN-capable USART asynchronous serial ports for expanded connectivity. NanoWatt power management technology is included for prolonged battery life.
