The seventh generation BlueCore silicon, BlueCore7, emerges as the first single wireless chip to combine Bluetooth v2.1+EDR, Bluetooth low energy, enhanced GPS, and FM transmit/receive capabilities. According to the company, the device significantly reduces power, size, cost, and complexity for adding multiple radios into a mobile phone. Its Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR radio delivers +1 dBm and –91 dBm of transmit and receive performance, respectively. BlueCore7 also employs the proprietary AuriStream voice CODEC, which produces the quality of a fixed line call and is capable of a 30% reduction in power consumption. The chip allows the Bluetooth and FM radios to work without interference, either independently or together to allow users to stream FM radio from a handset to a pair of Bluetooth headphones. The FM receiver specifies a sensitivity of -110 dBm and the FM transmitter delivers a maximum output power of +4.5 dBm. BlueCore7 is sampling now in QFN and WLCSP packages with volume production coming in the fourth quarter. CSR, Richardson, TX. (214)-540-4300.
