A new family of molded white LED light guides has been developed for 3G cell phones. Dubbed MicroLens, the family is said to provide enhanced brightness as high as 10,000 nits, crisper color, lower power consumption and more efficient use of white LEDs, making it possible to reduce the overall number of LEDs used per backlight from two, three or more to one or two. In addition, the guides are extremely thin, as low as 0.65 mm. MicroLens 3G cell phone backlights can be custom designed in almost any size, including 1", 1.5", 1.8" and 2" diagonal. Prices range from $0.95 to $1.25 each. GLOBAL LIGHTING TECHNOLOGIES, Brecksville, OH. (866) 922-4584.
