Introduced as a drop-in replacement for industry standard 2 x 16 LCDs, the DPLED 1602 employs polymer light emitting diode (DPLED) technology and delivers a 100:1 contrast ratio. This is said to be an improvement over older LCD technologies on the order of 20 times. The module provides a viewing angle of 160°with brightness levels of 40 cd/m2. Operating on voltages common to LCDs, the module draws just 20 mA of current. Other features include a pixel size of 0.5 mm x 0.6 mm, pixel pitch of 0.6 mm x 0.7 mm, an active area of 56.15 mm x 11.4 mm, and an overall size of 88 mm x 44 mm x 9.4 mm. Targeted applications include MP3 players, cell phones, and audio equipment. Prices start at under $10 each/1,000.
