Using artificial intelligence techniques to enhance object location/search functions in machine vision applications, the SmART Search software is able to adapt to a wide variety of process variations while still providing fast, highly accurate search and registration results. Such capabilities are especially important in demanding applications including robotic wafer handling, wire bonding and inspection, IC assembly and pick-and-place operations.SmART Search software locates objects with a precision said to be 15 times higher than that of the most commonly used methods. It maintains this precision, it's claimed, even when the objects to be located vary in size, orientation, shape, are occluded, or their appearance is degraded. The tool's geometric modeling automatically adapts and easily adjusts to process variations while maintaining 1/40th sub-pixel repeatability.
