VPT Inc., a provider of power conversion products for military, avionics, space and other high reliability markets, announced that the Defense Logistics Agency, Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) has certified both VPT Inc. and its joint venture partner Delta Electronics in Taiwan’s production facility for compliance with MIL-PRF-38534, Class K. This certification enables the VPT to pursue contracts for the supply of qualified hybrid dc-dc converters for commercial, scientific and military space programs.

VPT’s space-qualified products will be based on VPT’s existing, space-proven dc-dc standard product line of power converters. This pre-existing building block approach will enable VPT to deliver full Class K products within aggressive time-to-launch targets desired by new applications rather than in years, which can be the typical wait times associated with space-level dc-dc converters. VPT’s partner, Delta Electronics, is the first offshore manufacturer to receive the Class K certification from DSCC for the production of dc-dc power converters.

“Most of our product line already offers the small size, light weight, radiation tolerance and high reliability necessary for space-critical applications,” explained Michael Bosmann, senior vice president of sales and marketing for VPT. “Now, we can use those products as building blocks to provide functional breadboard units and then Class K-certified flight units very quickly.”
