Intersil Corp. has announced two new 6-phase digital controllers with I2C bus communication for greater system intelligence. Intersil’s ISL6592 voltage regulator (VR10.X) and ISL6595 (VR11.0) controllers are the first in the industry to offer active transient response (ATR), which reduces the number of output capacitors when compared to non-ATR systems. The digitally calibrated load lines provide high load line accuracy. Applications for the ISL6592 and ISL6595 include voltage regulator modules (VRMs) and intelligent, multiphase POL (point-of-load) modules.

These controllers feature 2-phase to 6-phase operation and have a switching frequency range of 300 kHz to 1.5 MHz. These units also are equipped with an internal high-precision reference, precision digital current sense calibration and a ±5-mV setpoint accuracy. Both units support Intel, AMD and customized VID codes.

The ISL6592 and ISL6595 are available now in a 48-pin LQFP lead-free package and are priced at $2.75 in 1000-unit quantities.
