High Level of Clock Tree Integration With ClockWorks™ Fusion

Feb. 22, 2013

Micrel, Inc. announces ClockWorks Fusion, a revolutionary clock generation product family that integrates the crystal, frequency synthesizer and fan-out buffer to deliver the industry's highest level of integration. The MX85 is the first in a series of devices aimed at simultaneously meeting the ultra-low jitter (less than 200fs) and integration requirements of 10/40/100 Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe 2.0/3.0, Fibre Channel, SAS/SATA, and high speed reference clocking for FPGA and SerDesapplications. Integrating the crystal delivers a complete clocking solution in a compact package that eliminates the design burden imposed by existing discrete solutions. With jitter performance that accounts for fan-out buffers, this custom configurable (OTP) clocking solution reduces customers' bill-of-material (BOM) and footprint, simplifies PCB design, and enhances overall system performance. The MX85 can be configured up to five outputs of two different frequencies supporting LVPECL, LVDS, HCSL and CMOS logic types.

Rami Kanama, vice president for the Timing and Communications Division at Micrel noted that "with jitter budgets tightening and design cycles shortening, many end system designers can no longer rely on disjointed clock trees that degrade performance and increase design complexity. The OTP configurable MX85 resolves these challenges by leading the industry with a complete clock tree solution in a single small package."

The MX85xxx products supporting the most common communications frequencies are sampling now in a space saving 5mm x 7mm LGA. Pricing is dependent upon configuration.
