Samsung Achieves 60nm Processing For 2Gb DDR2 DRAM

Memory maker Samsung has developed what it's calling the industry’s first 60-nm-class 2-Gb DDR2 DRAM with mass-production schedules set for later this year. The emerging devices deliver data rates of 800 Mb/s, a reported 20% performance boost over 80nm technology. Production efficiency also promises to be about 40% better using the finer 60-nm approach. Additionally, the devices will provide twice as much storage capacity while reducing the number of components used in a 1Gb-based, 8-GB module by 50%. Samsung says the device is suited for applications in servers, workstations and notebook PCs where operating speed is a major concern.
