Web-Based Environment Accelerates Semiconductor Design Cycle

Nov. 1, 2000

The result of a collaboration between Synopsis and Avant!, DesignSphere Access is an open hosted design environment that is said to radically reduce the cycle time and total cost required to take silicon designs from concept to production. Accessible via the Internet, this design tool combines electronic design automation (EDA) tools with network capability, and security services. An agreement with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) links the application to TSMC's eFoundry services.
Benefits to users include the immediate availability of design tools from concept through physical implementation, rapid reconfiguration and scalability with additional CPU and tool licenses available as needed, around the clock operation and support with access from any location, access to tools from third-party vendors, secure access, and what is said to be freedom from details of hardware, software, data management, backup, and security. The application is available for use now.
