Modular Platform Can Test DWDM Systems At A Speedy 10-Gb/s Pace

Feb. 1, 2000

Engineered specifically to test dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems at speeds of 10 Gb/s, the OTS9000 optical test set resides on a flexible platform that can accept new capabilities as changes in technology dictate. Well-suited for testing OC-192/STM-64 networking equipment, the new tester provides users with the capabilities, including pattern generation, for verifying multiple signals through bit error rate (BER) analysis. Optimized specifically for multi-channel optical test systems and based on the cPCI standard, the OTS9000 platform has a Windows NT interface and offers a remote control capability for automated testing. Cards are available for the system in three configurations: transceiver, transmitter only, and receiver only. This allows OEMs, for example, to design test systems using an optical splitter with one transmitter and multiple receivers, thereby lowering test cost per channel, as well as test time.
