SMT Connectors Use Springs To Ensure All Contacts Make Contact

Nov. 1, 2001

By employing modular, spring-loaded contacts, these single- and double-row contact strips are said to assure that each of the stripÕs contacts mates tightly with the opposing contacts. The SMT interconnects are designed for use in the base-unit, battery/charger interface for portable equipment. The connectorÕs contacts are positioned on a 0.1" grid, come in seven heights ranging from 0.177" to 0.295", and are rated at 2A continuous, 3A peak. Further, the modular contact assemblies use precision machined pistons, helping to ensure at least a 40,000 cycle life. And the pistons have a long stroke relative to the assemblyÕs low profile, while the connectorÕs high temperature thermoplastic insulators can withstand surface-mount processing conditions.
