Laser Temperature Controller Claimed As Industry First

Dec. 1, 2001

A single-chip, high-precision thermoelectric cooler (TEC) controller for DWDM network equipment is said to be an optical networking industry first. Based on the integration of several of the companyÕs amplifier circuits, as well as other proprietary linear technologies, the ADN8830 is designed to improve control of the TEC, a critical component in maintaining laser temperature in optical communications systems. It provides laser temperature control with high-temperature stability of ±0.01¡C, greater than 90% efficiency. and lower than 1% ripple noise performance. Available in a 5 mm x 5 mm chip-scale package, the ADN8830 is priced at $19 each/1,000. ANALOG DEVICES INC., Wilmington, MA. (781) 937-1428.
