Users of desktop or notebook computers can instantly swap devices, such as a CD-ROM drive and a floppy, while the system is on, with BaySwap hot swapping software. Computers using the software will recognize a new device insertion and removal, and automatically reconfigure the system. It expands the functionality and life of a system, it's claimed, by allowing an array of devices to be added without opening the case. With the software, OEMs reduce the number of slots used, thus creating lighter systems. In some configurations, notebook and desktop systems can even share devices.
