With a multi-bit sigma-delta converter architecture that reduces its sensitivity to clock jitter and removes a substantial amount of out-of-band noise often present in the output of a DAC, WM8720 24-bit digital audio D/A converter minimizes the complexity of external filtering to save space and cost. The DAC achieves 102 dB dynamic range and 115 dB signal-to-noise ratio. Applications include digital TVs, set-top boxes, CD and DVD players, and home theater systems. The device also features a serial interface port, digital interpolation filter, multi-bit sigma-delta modulator, and a stereo DAC--all in a 20-pin SSOP. Data input word lengths from 16 to 24 bits are supported at sampling rates up to 96 kHz. Mute and attenuation are digitally controllable on each channel.
