Said to be industry firsts, the company's 16- and 18-slot CompactPCI packet-switching backplanes (cPSBs) meet both PICMG 2.16 and PICMG 2.17 specifications. The backplanes promise increased performance levels by moving data traffic off the shared bus and onto an embedded switched Ethernet network fabric, accessed via a J3 connector. This allows up to 20 link slots to be supported by using a single fabric slot, or 19 link slots to be supported by using redundant, hot-swappable fabric slots in a single CompactPCI chassis. Furthermore, systems using the StarFabric backplane reportedly can even accommodate next generation communications requirements, such as OC3 to OC12 and OC48.
