A highly integrated, dual-channel, 16-bit programmable sensor-signal conditioner from Maxim Integrated Products provides amplification, calibration, signal linearization, and temperature compensation.
The MAX1463's outputs support a choice of analog or digital outputs, including 4 to 20 mA, 0.5 to 4.5 V ratiometric, and pulse-width modulation (PWM). Uncommitted op amps are available for buffering the digital-to-analog converter (DAC) outputs, driving heavier external loads, or providing additional gain and filtering.
To achieve all its functions, the MAX1463 incorporates a 16-bit CPU, user-programmable 4 kbytes of flash program memory, 128 bytes of flash user information, a 16-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and two 16-bit DACs. It also has two 12-bit PWM digital outputs, four op amps, one serial peripheral interface, two GPIOs, and one on-chip temperature sensor.
Packaged in a 28-pin SSOP, the MAX1463 operates from a single 5-V supply over the automotive, industrial, and commercial temperature ranges. Prices start at $4.95 in lots of 1000 and up. A preliminary data sheet is available at www.maxim-ic.com/PRGraphics/PRPDF/MAX1463DS.pdf.
