A new high-performance 14-bit analog-to-digital converter, the ADS5500, boasts a sampling rate of 125-Msamples/s, as well as 70-dB SNR and 82-dB SFDR at 100-MHz input frequency. This performance is expected to improve receiver performance in wireless communications and extend signal analysis capabilities for test equipment, among other things. In addition, the device features a low total power dissipation of just 750 mW. This is expected to reduce power supply requirements and the need for thermal management in a variety of systems. The ADS5500 is sampling now, with volume production scheduled for Q1 2004. The device comes in a 64-TQFP PowerPad package and is priced at $95.00 each/1,000. Evaluation modules are also available.
