The ACS411 T/E Fiber Access device, a fiber-optic access chip set, can multiplex up to 16 independent T1 or E1 serial data channels over a single fiber-optic cable. It provides an aggregate bandwidth of up to 51.84 Mbits/s on a single channel, reaching up to 90 km without the need for repeaters. Also, it operates over twin fiber cables or a single fiber cable with wave-division multiplexing.
One of the three chips in the set is the ACS4110 mixed-signal device, which provides 16-channel multiplexer/demultiplexer logic. The ACS4110 also features clock and data recovery. The ACS9020 analog transceiver contains a transmitter with laser and LED drivers, and a PIN receiver with transimpedance and post amplifiers. Two ACS9020 devices are used to eliminate all crosstalk from the transmitter to the receiver.
The ACS411 fully meets all AT&T, ITU-T, and Bellcore specifications for jitter attenuation, jitter transfer, and input jitter tolerance. De-jittering circuits for individual channels are integrated into the ACS4110 device. The ACS411 interfaces to T1/E1 lines through standard T1/E1 framers or line-interface units. A customizable microprocessor interface supports device configuration, link configuration, and link monitoring and status reporting. Moreover, the ACS411 offers full loopback diagnostics for each channel that can be configured through the microprocessor interface.
The ACS4110 comes in a TQFP176, and the ACS9020 is packaged in a TQFP64. Available now, the ACS411 T/E Fiber Access chip set costs $113 each in 1000-unit quantities.
