Reducing parts count and speeding design cycles, the TPA2008D2 clocks in as the first 5V Class D audio power amplifier that requires no filter and integrates a dc volume control. Gain is controlled by a dc voltage applied to the designated volume pin and, at full power, the device will drive 3W x 2 (6W) into 3W speakers with no external heat sink. Features include an efficiency of over 80%, a half- power THD+N of 0.045% at 1 kHz, and a noise floor of -80 dBV. In a surface-mount, 24-pin TSSOP, prices start at $1.80 each/1,000.
