Sensor Conditioning Improves IoT Data

July 14, 2022
Renesas's sensor-conditioning front-end provides "cleaner" data for edge AI analysis.

Check out more Sensors Converge coverage.

Sensor data isn't always as clean as one would like for post analysis. Sensor-signal-conditioning (SCC) support like the ZSSC3281, which Renesas's Michael Georgi demonstrates in the video, delivers more useful information that can then be used by tools within an application, e.g., a machine-learning model (see figure).

The family includes resistive and capacitive SSCs. Renesas's resistive SSCs include a n ADC with 24-bit resolution. The capacitive SSCs support current consumption as low as 1.3 µA at 1 sample/s. These chips offer an energy-efficient solution that's optimized for battery-driven applications.

I earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Masters in Computer Science from Rutgers University. I still do a bit of programming using everything from C and C++ to Rust and Ada/SPARK. I do a bit of PHP programming for Drupal websites. I have posted a few Drupal modules.

I still get a hand on software and electronic hardware. Some of this can be found on our Kit Close-Up video series. You can also see me on many of our TechXchange Talk videos. I am interested in a range of projects from robotics to artificial intelligence.
